It can't be the USB power thing as I disabled that and I don't think that would effect any of the other system sounds from playing, just the actual sound card

If the sound turns off again then there must be something else going on in my system. after inspection xp says i dont ahve a sound device installed, then after reboot it says i do have a sound device. This doesn't happen in all games, for example, when I play Audiosurf then the sound plays as normal no matter how long I play.
