Here is the Sound section of the dxdiag report taken while the sound did not work: ------------- Sound Devices ------------- Description: SoundMAX Digital Audio Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Keep all communication public, on the subreddit. my secound guess was the amd high definition audio device (from the radeon), for updating those radeon-drivers was the only thing that changed the system configuration. I would really appreciate some help on this issue, especially since my warranty ended no more than 6 days ago!!

We have to manually delete the sound device from Device Manager and restart which then forces a reinstall and the sound works - until the next shut down or restart.
