The Asus Xonar is an awesome card I that heartily recommend. his comment is here I have no clue as to whether or not you can use SPDIF and still use the X-Fi's DACs, which are pretty good. I've got a good 5.1 system. I'm using the latest drivers & sound is through Logitech Z2300's.

Any consumer sound card when working 100% may use.... 10W at most, and some of that is on the 5V rail. Introduction I am just... Without fail I'm getting either no audio or hisses, cracks and pops. He is the same guy that fixed Creative's install/compatibility problems with their drivers.

Much cleaner playback and I could make out more detail. As I recall, some games used to require x-fi to enable the most simultaneous sounds (BF2 used to allow 128 with xfi, other soundcards would stop at 32 or 64). They have a mountain of problems with their similated support for EAX gaming. The X-FI titanium is what I use in my current machine and I am having great luck with headphone usage and you can plug your case jacks into the card itself

Or worse still cracks and pops in a repeating pattern almost like morse code or some twisted type of song. Never had any trouble with it; the technology was just getting a little out-dated.
