I s there any hope left for this machine? At James F's suggestion I got ATIH 2012 (rather than the 2011 plus package) and it does make a disc image backup of the Sony GPT drive. To Scott: ATIH 2012 did make a disk image backup of my Sony 'S' GPT hard drive without any complications. I'm at a complete loss as to what to do. At least they could have the courtesy of removing the splash screen when I hit a button so that I could see the options, but no. ATI 2011 definitely did not handle GPT and ati 2012 definitely should handle GTP basic disks.
The 2012 version includes (according to the 2012 information page) "Full support for UEFI and GPT disks." UEFI systems with GPT disks are not supported in 2011, even with the Plus Now i have 2 Windows 7 Installed on my Vaio grate to Sony. Thanks for taking your time to do this. In my case, pressing F10 did work, but that would have brought the system back to day one and removed all data files and just placed a raw load of XP
